空間
では「空間」とは
何を意味するのでしょうか。
実際には、庭や
広々とした座席・食事・仕事の空間、
寝室や音楽・瞑想の部屋などを
体験していただけます。
それぞれが異なる雰囲気や趣を持つように
設計されています。
さらに深い意味として、
私たちの名「高野山空（くう）」にある「空」は、
仏教における聖なる開放性や
無限の空間をも表しています。
季節の庭の空間
SPACE: Each Space is designed to provide a different mood or setting. And our name, Koyasan Kū (空), derives from the Buddhist concept of kū, or śūnyatā—emptiness and the boundless fifth element of the gorintō.
GARDEN: Koyasan sits 800m above sea level. Winters drop to –15 °C, summers reach +35 °C, and annual rainfall approaches two metres. These extremes drive our garden experiments, with many failures and a few surprising successes. Our fig tree thrives, while apple and pear have vanished. The extreme humidity and pristine mountain air also sustain the classical moss-covered lanterns and towering Japanese cypresses (sugi), elements that define the essential atmosphere of Okunoin. We collect cold-tolerant agave, jasmine, rosemary, ferns, and more—some from botanical gardens, others from Hokkaidō, Yakushima, and alpine regions. Over 400 species are planted, though most reveal themselves only to the careful eye. The garden is strictly chemical-free, attracting insects and butterflies for those with patience and a camera. Herbs from the garden also appear in our teas and at breakfast.
